Taming the Monkey Mind

Our thoughts define us and our thoughts create our life. The monkey mind is the thoughts that run

wild in our mind and take us away from the present moment.

It's important that we become aware of our monkey mind so we can release the ego and live a more

soul based life, as the monkey mind deprives us from the joy and peace that thrive in being in the

present moment. We can release the monkey mind through the stillness we achieve in meditation.

Observation of oneself without judgment allows us to become aware of our actions and there

subsequent reactions. Through this loving detachment of emotion towards our actions we can better

assess what is happening. Through this awareness we consider why we do the things we do and make

the choices we make. With this new found awareness comes a deeper understanding of our self.

Through meditation we learn to connect with our breath and breathe deeply, smoothly and create a

focused energy. In this mediative state we consciously and subconsciously release old thoughts, habits

and emotions. This happens as the neural pathways are softened and we create better

neurotransmitters, as neurotransmitters are like our thought patterns that create habits. Our breath is

the best indication of our emotional state. Throughout our day, when we take a moment to connect

with our breath, we become aware of what situations, people and words trigger us, sitting with the

feelings that arise without fighting it or running from it, we can find peace in facing it.

The beautiful saying of Lao Tzu, "If you are depressed, you are living in the past. If you are anxious,

you are living in the future. If you are at peace, you are living in the moment." Connecting to our

breath takes us into the present moment and creates peace in our mind, as it is not the situation that

has changed but our observation of what is happening. We become less reactive and calmer.

Meditation creates a shift in consciousness of the human mind to the universal mind; simply put it is

expanding our consciousness to see the connection between our self and life experiences. Our soul is

connected and aware, a place of unconditional love, strength, wisdom, happiness and joy. Our soul

does not react to external circumstances as it is pure awareness. The ego however activates the

monkey mind and tums external circumstances into anxiety anger or unbalanced excitement. The soul

is limitless and expanded and is what connects us all. Connecting to this deep part of us for a few

minutes a day will improve our life in beautiful and magical ways, bringing more peace, joy and

awareness. Connecting to our soul is what happens when we sleep, when we are in meditation we are

in the same deep relaxation as sleep and create the same healing energy in a conscious state.

If your monkey mind activates simply bring your focus onto your breath, becoming aware of how you

feel and begin to breathe deeply and smoothly allowing your body and mind to relax and focus on the

present moment. Truth sets us free, be true to yourself and see your happiness flourish, like a flower in full bloom.

"If one advances confidently in the direction of ones dreams and endeavours to live the life which he

has imagined, one will meet with a success unexpected in common hours" David Thoreau
