Technology and social media can be seen as a form of simple learning, connecting and sharing our love of so many different things that this world has to offer us. With any form of growth and expansion, sometimes it can become out of balance. If we progress too quickly, we can fall just as quickly or if we block our growth we can become stuck. Staying focused and grateful for technology and social media helps us to use it for growth and happiness and allows the negative distractions to fade away from the forefront of our mind, becoming less prominent.

Meditation, or even a moving meditation of yoga, creates focus in the mind and gratitude in the heart, allowing us to stay in the present moment. When we can stay firmly in the present moment we can experience the fullness of life and distractions fade away into the background noise. Difficult situations will seem a lot lighter and easier to deal with.

The amazing thing about meditation is we can practise anywhere, even now, by simply and completely focusing on our breath. If for a moment we stop reading and using technology, or connecting and expanding externally for a moment, and connect with our internal world. Because deep down in our soul is a place of endless inspired energy. When we connect with ourselves we create a relationship with that space within us, which becomes easier and easier each time we meditate. So for the next few minutes sit comfortably in your chair or on the floor and gently close your eyes and bring your focus onto your breath. Feel the air come in your nose and deeply breath through the back of your throat, all the way down to your lungs and feel your rib cage expand with the fresh oxygen. On the exhale push all the air out completely by contracting your lungs and breathing through the back of the throat and out through your nose. On the inhale imagine and feel you are breathing in energy flowing all through your body and on the exhale breathing out any tension or tightness you might be subconsciously holding in the body and letting it all go. Try this for a five minutes.

How do you feel? More relaxed, calm and focused? Has something been brought to your attention about what you feelings you are holding in your body?

As I said, the good news is we can start to meditate wherever we are, as it is very simple. However, practise makes perfect, so to improve our meditation it is great to create an enjoyable practice. Meditation can be deeply enjoyable and rewarding too, not only for us, it can be a great benefit for all those around us. Start with what suits you, whether that be once a month, once a week, every morning and every night, lunch times, or a simple 5 minutes whenever you notice yourself getting stressed.

Enjoy your practise and have a great day.
